Sooner Express

This week is homecoming. The leaves have changed and mostly fallen. Kansas injuries continue to mount. As the Jayhawks prepare for the Sooners, we learned safety Greg Allen will probably miss the rest of the season with a groin injury. Left tackle Jordan Shelley-Smith is out with a concussion. Montell Cozart is still not healed. David Beaty is upset with missed tackles and penalties. But it won't matter, because last year, the Jayhawks proved (with some NFL talent on the field), they could not stop the running game.

That hurts to watch. Samaje Perine set the NCAA record for rushing in a single game, one week after Melvin Gordon had set the record. The Jayhawks are generally built to stop speed, so a rusher with both speed and power will melt a KU defense like butter. Perine still has another year after this one before he can be eligible for the NFL. It's entirely possible OU will sit him down and try to preserve as many players as possible for tough games ahead that could decide the Big 12 title, and a potential playoff spot for a Big 12 team. Even though Oklahoma lost to Texas, they are still in the mix.

I was close with my prediction against Oklahoma State. I don't see anything differently about this week. Oklahoma will probably score 35-42 points by halftime and take it easy in the second half.

Prediction: Oklahoma 63, Kansas 3
